Astred red clover has consistently performed in many areas of Australia showing excellent persistence in various grazing management systems.
Astred was selected for low levels of oestrogen, reducing the risk of fertility problems in breeding animals. Astred is truly flexible making it suitable for finishing systems, dairy pastures and high quality hay production.
Suited to free draining soils, red clover can be sown into all regions of Australia that receive above 600mm annual rainfall. Red clover's nutritional qualities make high quality hay that is ideal for finishing lambs, cattle or milking cows.
Red clover has caused issues in the past because of the potential to produce high oestrogen levels. This can have adverse affects on the performance of stock and more importantly the fertility of breeding stock.
Plant breeding efforts have made significant improvements in reducing oestrogen levels to make red clover a highly valuable pasture species today.
Minimum 600mm rainfall per annum unless irrigated
