Pronto® forage sorghum is a fast maturing sorghum sudan cross suited to a wide range of environments. Pronto produces large wide leaves and fine stems which makes it an ideal option for silage/hay production.
Pronto may be planted from early spring through to late summer with best establishment achieved when soil temperature is 16C and rising. Sowing rates will depend on the farming system, available irrigation or expected rainfall
Marginal Dryland | 4 - 8kg/ha |
Good Dryland | 8 - 20kg/ha |
Irrigation/high rainfall | 20 - 30kg/ha |
Pronto has the ability to produce quality forage during the summer period with increased production from irrigation or summer rain due to the higher water use efficiency of forage sorghum. It is well suited to dairy and beef production and provides quick regrowth for 2-3 grazing’s or cutting for hay/silage production over the summer period.
Minimum 450mm rainfall per annum unless irrigated
